Man wanted for drug trafficking arrested after overnight standoff in Auburn

One man was taken into custody peacefully after a standoff in Auburn.

Police responded to a home on Poland Spring Road around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. They received information that 38-year-old James Bourgoin, who was the subject of a drug trafficking investigation, was staying there. He also had an outstanding warrant for probation revocation.

Police learned that Bourgoin was armed and attempted to make contact with him over a PA system after removing the homeowner and another male and bringing them to a safe location.

Bourgoin told police that he was using another male still inside the home as a hostage.

After hours of negotiating, the two came out of the home around 4 a.m., with Bourgoin surrendering to police.

Officers seized a handgun and drugs including meth, fentanyl, and suboxone from Bourgoin. He faces several charges.
