After nine hours of deliberation, a jury found a 27-year-old man not guilty of murder and aggravated assault charges in connection with a shooting in Portland eight years ago.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Aristotle Stilley was acquitted Thursday in the shooting at a Gilman Street apartment that left 36-year-old David Anderson dead and 21-year-old Abdirahman Abdullahi injured in 2016.
The state’s case against Stilley was based on circumstantial evidence that failed to sway the jury.
Police found another man’s DNA profile on a gun, but they weren’t able to identify the man. It was also not conclusively proven that the gun in question was used in the shooting.
