Many People Are Unable to Fill Available Jobs

MAINE (Portland Press Herald)- Despite a wide variety of available jobs in Maine, many people are unable to fill those positions. The Maine Sunday Telegram’s front page story this week cited challenges related to the covid-19 pandemic. Some parents are being forced to stay home while their children are doing remote learning, and are unable to find a job that fits their schedule. To make matters even more difficult, some distanced learning schedules have been inconsistent since school resumed in September. Another factor is the lack of affordable child care, which many people can not afford. 43,000 people in the state are continuing to file unemployment claims in the state, which is more than any point in time for at least the last 17 years.
