READFIELD, Maine — Superintendent Jay Charette issued an announcement a little after noon on Sunday that both Maranacook Community High and Middle Schools would be closed on Monday, Oct. 31, because of an anonymous text that threatened violence at the high school.

Charette wrote that police were immediately notified, and that school officials would be working with them to determine the validity of the threat.

The superintendent said that more information would be available as to how schools would reopen on Tuesday, November 1.

All school activities, including the “Haunted Halloween Walk” planned by the Parent Teacher Organization for Sunday evening are canceled.

All the other schools in RSU #38 will operate as scheduled.
