Governor Janet Mills has received an endorsement from Planned Parenthood’s Maine Action Fund, cementing her already strong position on reproductive rights.  The endorsement comes after Planned Parenthood officials met with Governor Mills to discuss her plans on reproductive rights and abortion protections in Maine.

“I promise you I am not stopping fighting now, not when it’s all on the line!” Said Governor Mills at the rally in Portland’s Lincoln Park.  “The recent U.S Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is a fundamental assault on women’s rights and on reproductive freedom.  We all know it will do nothing to stop abortion, it only makes it illegal–it will only make it less safe, less available.  Let me assure you, here in Maine, we are not going to go backwards.”

The Governor also fired some shots the way of her opponent, Paul LePage, who has found himself in hot water for recent comments where he said he had “no time for abortion.” Mills said that “republican candidates have made it clear that they will come for abortion rights , they will come for women’s freedoms if elected.  And we know what Paul LePage will do too, no matter what he says today or tomorrow…when asked whether he thought Roe v Wade should be overturned a few months ago, he said ‘let’s do it’, like it was some kind of game show!” Remarked Mills.

Several other community speakers were showcased at the event including a teacher who shared their story of abortion and several students who urged people to do what they couldn’t yet do, vote.

Maine’s gubernatorial election is being held on November 8th, 2022.
