A moped driver suffered serious injuries in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Harpswell.

Police say 45-year-old Louis Smith of Brunswick went off the roadway into a ditch on Cundy’s Harbor Road after failing to negotiate a turn.

Police say Smith was not wearing a helmet and was taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, which is under investigation.
