Mother, sons hurt in Byron ATV crash


A mother and her two sons were injured in an ATV crash in Byron Monday morning.

The Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife says 42-year-old Elizabeth Wallace of Byron was driving her 12- and 13-year-old sons to the bus stop on an Arctic Cat ATV.

The department says the ATV veered off the road and went into a ditch.

The 12-year-old was tossed off the machine, while the mother and 13-year-old were trapped underneath.

The 12-year-old started knocking on doors to get help.

Three men who were renting a cabin answered the door and rushed to the scene after they were told about the accident.

The 13-year-old was already free when they arrived, but the mother needed help getting out from underneath the ATV.

Wallace was treated for injuries to her pelvis, back and head.

Game wardens said that one of the boys suffered a possible back injury, while the other sustained a possible head injury.

The crash remains under investigation.
