SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) Police in Maine are searching for two wanted men.

Police say Shawn Batchelder, 36, hasn’t reported to his probation officer and was last seen in Augusta on Sept. 12.

In 2012, Batchelder received a 25-year sentence, all but 10 years suspended and 4 years probation, for class A gross sexual assault.

Police believe he is in a heavily wooded area near Rangeley or Byron.

Investigators think he is travelling with another man, Steven Petersen, who’s currently on bail after being charged with gross sexual assault in York County.

Arrest warrants have been issued for both men.

The search for the men involves the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Maine Game Wardens and the Maine Dept. of Corrections.

Police say anyone who sees the men should call police and not approach the suspects.

According to investigators, Batchelder may be a danger to himself and possibly others.
