Casco Woods Fire - North Yarmouth Fire Rescue

Casco Fire and Rescue is still advising people to avoid the area after well over a dozen departments battled a wildfire in Casco that burned nearly 20 acres of woods.

The fire reportedly started at about 3:30 am Saturday and had widely spread by 10 am in an area near Coffee Pond Road.

Crew from at least 15 departments and Forest Service Rangers worked to contain the fire all day and late into Saturday night before being contained.

Casco Fire Rescue is asking the public to avoid the area for the next week as they perform cleanup in the area.

They said hot spots remained late Saturday night that had burned down to the roots, and said they would be working on Coffee Pond Road with the Maine Forest Service throughout this week on clean up.

Wind reportedly played a role in the spread of the fire, which included fir trees. A Forest Service Helicopter was brought in to perform water drops at one point.

Casco Fire Rescue reported encountering several hunters while working the fire, although they did not report any injuries.

Maine Forest Rangers reported the entire state except for the most northwest section was under high fire danger on Saturday, an escalation from just a day earlier.
