New Balance factory in Skowhegan evacuated after possible exposure to hazardous chemical

Multiple agencies were on scene and five people hospitalized after suspected exposure to a hazardous chemical at the New Balance factory store in Skowhegan on Thursday afternoon.

There were reports of firetrucks and other emergency personnel at the scene on Walnut Street.

The company issued a statement saying several associates reported unusual symptoms. A hazmat crew was on the way to the scene, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The building was evacuated and closed for the remainder of the day.
