A New Gloucester man was arrested after he allegedly crashed his car into a sheriff deputy’s cruiser and waved a knife at the deputy and a state trooper.

The Sun Journal reports that the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a drunk driver leaving the scene of a crash shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.

Officials say that deputies eventually located the vehicle and the suspect, 28-year-old Garred Laughlin, who reportedly stopped his car on Academy Rd. in Litchfield and backed it into a deputies’ cruiser.

According to CBS 13, a Maine state trooper arrived and blocked the car in.

The trooper and deputy broke one of the car’s windows as they tried to get the suspect out of the vehicle.

Officials say that Laughlin flailed a hunting knife at them, and the deputy used his stun gun on the suspect, who faces multiple charges.
