New jobless claims in Maine declined again last week, but still remain well higher than where they were before the coronavirus pandemic.

The Maine Department of Labor says residents of this state submitted about 11,500 first-time unemployment claims last week.

Total jobless claims over the past four weeks have totaled about 79,600.

New unemployment claims peaked during the week ending April 4 at nearly 31,000.

Before new restrictions on businesses in the state took effect last month, a little more than 600 Mainers filed for unemployment for the first time during the week ending March 14.
