A newly sworn-in Lewiston city councilor pleaded not guilty to two criminal charges in court Wednesday morning.

Shortly after his election, Iman Osman was indicted on one count of receiving stolen property and one count of theft by unauthorized taking of a gun.

An independent investigator was also brought in to determine if Osman can represent Ward 5, since his listed address has been condemned since last fall.

Osman’s next court appearance is March 9.
