A New York man will serve 48 years behind bars for the killing of a Maine woman more than 3 years ago.

The Bangor Daily News reported Tuesday that 40-year-old Carine Reeves was sentenced for the murder of 55-year-old Sally Shaw of New Gloucester in July of 2017.

Reeves was convicted of shooting Shaw in the back of the head and leaving her body on the side of the road in Cherryfield.

According to testimony from a third person who was there at the time of the killing, the three were traveling to Machias to sell drugs when Shaw began insulting the mother of Reeve’s children, which led to the killing.

In court, Reeves maintained his innocence, and claimed he wasn’t present when Shaw died.
