SCARBOROUGH, Maine (WGAN) A New Jersey man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop on the Maine Turnpike.
Around midnight Thursday morning, a state trooper stopped 35-year-old Jason Lara-Matos for a traffic violation while he was heading north on the Turnpike in Scarborough.
During the stop, police say “numerous criminals indicators were observed.” More troopers and a K9 were called to assist.
Police say the K9 indicated the presence of narcotics and a search of the car resulted in the seizure of 108 grams of cocaine. Lara-Matos was taken to Cumberland County Jail.
At the jail, Lara-Matos was found to have an additional .5 grams of cocaine as well as 28 grams of ecstasy. He was charged with unlawful trafficking of cocaine and of ecstasy. Bail was set at $10,000.
