Northern Light Health is closing outpatient offices in Waterville and folding those services into the city’s Inland Hospital campus.

The Bangor Daily News reports the move is another cost-saving measure for the healthcare system that has had credit rating downgrades, numerous high-ranking resignations, and the outsourcing of hundreds of jobs.

Northern Light says consolidating locations will reduce overhead costs by avoiding the rental fees for operating multiple sites.

About 15 people will lose jobs in the closures, although many of them could be relocated within the company.

In addition Northern Light will end birthing services in Waterville on March 1st because of ongoing staffing shortages.

Northern Light announced the closure of outpatient offices Thursday.
