AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Central Maine Power says the estimated cost of damage from October’s wind storm is $69 million.
Our info partners at Channel 8 report the estimate was released during a media briefing Thursday to give an update on the Maine Public Utilities Commission’s investigating into the storm response by power crews.
About 470 thousand CMP customers were left without power after the storm hit in late October. Some customers didn’t see their lights turn back on until 10 days after the storm.
CMP is looking to pay the cost with a $13 million rate hike for customers, according to officials.
There are two proposed plans for introducing rate hikes. Either customers will pay an extra $1.30 on each bill for a year of $0.65 per bill for two years.
The official request for a rate hike will be submitted in March. Customers could see the rate hikes as early as July, according to officials.
