Officials say two police officers were justified in using deadly force when they fired at an autistic man in Augusta a little under two years ago.

The Office of the Maine Attorney General says officers were acting in defense of themselves and others when they shot and killed 34-year-old Dustin Paradis in Oct. 2021.

The AG’s office says Paradis told police to kill him and then charged at officers inside the Bread of Life shelter.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the AG’s office has never ruled that police were not justified in using deadly force in an officer-involved shooting.
