A proposed regional connector road between Gorham and the Maine Turnpike has been announced by officials.

It will be located between Exit 45 on the turnpike and the Gorham Bypass off Route 114, south of Gorham Village.

Area municipalities made the announcement along with the Maine Turnpike Authority and the Maine Dept. of Transportation Monday Morning.

The MTA says it has been working on plans for the connector for years, and the need for the road has been part of regional transportation conversations for over two decades.

Officials say that construction of the connector and repairs will be paid for by toll revenue, which means that no taxpayer dollars will be required to make the road a reality.

The first public meeting for the project will take place next month in Gorham, providing opportunities to learn about the project, ask questions and make comments.

Residents can also attend the meeting virtually.
