Officials anticipate impact on travel as thousands of Canadian border workers prepare to strike

A union representing thousands of Canadian border agents is set to go on strike.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the Public Service Alliance of Canada and its Customs and Immigration Union, which represents about 9,000 border employees, including border officers and other staff members, said it had voted in favor of a strike.

The strike, which could begin as soon as August 6th, would likely impact travel as border restrictions loosen. Fully vaccinated Americans will be allowed to cross the border into Canada by land without having to quarantine starting August 9th, though travel restrictions on the American side of the border have been extended.

An official told reporters that a strike could cause significant delays in courier and travel services.
