The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch due to a landslide that was discovered Wednesday morning in Westbrook.

The service says the watch is in effect for the coastal Cumberland area until 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The city also issued a state of emergency, and warned residents to try to stay out of the area and away from the landslide.

The Portland Press Herald reports that the landslide completely blocked the Presumpscot River near the Sappi Mill. It was discovered around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire Chief Andrew Turcotte told the paper crews were on scene to assess any flood impact. They’re also looking to determine if there’s any danger to a water and gas main buried in the area.

There were no injuries and no impact on roads in the area.
