One Killed, One Injured in Crash on Turnpike

WELLS, Maine (WGAN)  State Police say one lane of the turnpike in Wells is likely to be shut down for most of the morning as Troopers investigate a fatal one car crash.

Police say one man was killed.  He was a passenger in the car.  Another man, the driver, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life threatening injuries.

Both are believed to be from outside Maine.

Police say initial indications are speed is a factor as the car struck the median guardrail and then crossed the northbound lanes and slammed into a group of trees off the breakdown lane.

Two of the three northbound lanes remain open.
