AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Mainers can now sign up for health insurance through the state’s new marketplace that was launched under the Affordable Care Act.
Mainers can visit CoverME.gov, a new website unveiled by the administration of Governor Janet Mills back in October.
The open enrollment period began Monday and the state is allowing residents an extra month to enroll, making the deadline January 15th, 2022.
The governor’s administration says 80 percent of people using CoverME.gov to shop for insurance are qualified for financial assistance that was made possible through American Rescue Plan act funding.
“As we continue to tackle the pandemic and move our economic recovery forward, it’s never been more important to be able to see your doctor, receive care, get your medications, stay healthy, and contribute to our state, without sacrificing your family’s financial stability,” Governor Mills said in a statement. “I urge anyone who needs affordable coverage to visit CoverME.gov today.”
Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew told Maine Public they’ve learned the lessons from the launch of the federal ACA marketplace website in 2014, which was plagued by technical problems. She said they felt prepared for Monday’s launch.
