Updated: Open Hearth Motel Engulfed in Flames

Trenton Volunteer Fire Department

A fire caused massive damage to a Motel in Trenton early Saturday morning.

Around 2:56 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to the Open Hearth Motel and arrived to find heavy flames and smoke in the middle section of the building.

The Trenton Fire Volunteer Department said firefighters were hindered by downed live electrical wires, icy conditions, frozen gear, and frigid temperatures.

Due to limited water resources, other crews were called in to provide support, including Mount Desert, Ellsworth, and Bar Harbor.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office found that the damage was too severe to find an exact cause of the fire, however, so far, the fire appears to be accidental.
