Orland Home Explosion Injures Four

ORLAND, Maine (November 4, 2023) – A propane leak and explosion at a single-family home in Orland on Friday injured four people, including two homeowners.

The Orland Fire Department responded to the fire and explosion at 102 Soper Road at approximately 9:20 a.m. Four adults were in the home at the time, and all were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC). One adult with serious but non-life-threatening injuries was flown to EMMC via LifeFlight. The other three adults suffered serious and minor injuries.

Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the fire and explosion were caused by a propane leak. The source of the leak and the ignition source are still under investigation.

The home was completely destroyed in the explosion. The Orland Fire Department was assisted by numerous mutual aid departments.
