A father is in custody following the death of an infant in Penobscot County.

Maine State Police say the baby, 12-week-old Lyla Samuels, was found unresponsive on Friday in Orrington and taken to the hospital where they died.

After an investigation, state police arrested 24-year-old Shawn Samuels on Saturday for domestic violence assault and violating bail.

He was then charged with murder after the child died on Sunday.

The baby’s manner of death has been ruled a homicide while the cause of death is still being determined.

Samuels will appear in court on Wednesday.
