Central Maine Power reported Wednesday morning that tropical storm Isaias knocked out service to about 99,000 homes and businesses.
The storm brought strong gusty winds to the area and caused trees and power lines to tumble down in some parts of the state.
The hardest hit areas were York and Cumberland Counties. CMP reported a combined 47,000 outages in those counties late Tuesday night.

CMP spokesperson Katherine Hartnett said in an interview Wednesday morning on the WGAN Morning news, which you can listen to by visiting our audio archives, the first reports of power outages came in around 7 p.m. and things escalated quickly.
Gusts of more than 40 mph were recorded in Portland.
According to the National Weather Service, a new peak wind gust for August was recorded atop Mount Washington, where gusts reached 147 mph.
