The administration of Governor Janet Mills has updated it’s COVID-19 risk advisory system for Maine’s schools.
The update released Friday maintains a “yellow” designation for schools in York County, which recommends a hybrid model of learning. It also moves Oxford County into the yellow category.
Androscoggin County is also now being “closely monitored.”
All other counties remain green, which allows for school districts to proceed with all in-person learning if they choose to.
The Mills administration says Oxford County was recategorized from green to yellow due to rapid and significant increases in COVID-19 prevalence, with the rate of new cases per 10,000 people jumping from 4.66 to 10.69 over the last two weeks. It’s two-week positivity rate also rose from 1.6% to 2.1%
The administration cited increases in York County as well, prompting the decision to keep it in the yellow category.
Although it remains green, Androscoggin County has seen an increase in new cases per 10,000 people ticking up from 3.79 to 6.37 over the last two weeks.
