Pair of Men Arrested on Drug Charges on Maine Turnpike

AUBURN, Maine (WGAN)  Two men have been arrested for trafficking drugs in Auburn.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says on Tuesday, they stopped a car on the Turnpike in Auburn.  A search of the car turned up 129 grams of heroin and 33 grams of cocaine.

Police arrested 41-year-old Rashawn Brown from New York and 53-year-old Jeffrey Brown from Wilton.  The two men are not related.

Drug agents say for the last two months, they have conducted a joint investigation with Wilton Police into the sale of heroin and cocaine in the area.

Police say Rashawn Brown had been using local hotels as a base of operations and would travel from New York regularly to purchase large amounts of the drugs, then return to Maine to sell them.

Both men were charged with aggravated trafficking schedule W drugs, unlawful trafficking schedule W drugs and illegal importation of heroin and cocaine.

Drug agents say both men made their initial court appearances in Lewiston District Court Wednesday and are being held at Androscoggin County Jail.  Bail has been set at $50,000 cash, each.

Drug agents say additional arrests are expected.
