The parents of a Casco teenager who died on a school hiking trip are suing the district.

According to CBS 13 news, 17-year-old Michael Strecker died following a day-long hike in New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest in September of 2021.

In a complaint, his parents said he died of heat stroke. Their suit against MSAD 61 claims that students and staff weren’t properly trained or equipped for the trip, that Strecker’s requests to turn back were ignored and access to water was restricted.

The family is seeking a jury trial for damages.
