Passenger Killed in Limousine Crash Was a Former Mainer, Veteran


SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (WGAN) A Hampden Academy graduate was one of 20 people killed in a limousine accident in upstate New York over the weekend.

The Bangor Daily News reports that 34-year-old Michael Ukaj was one of the 17 passengers aboard the vehicle when it sped through a stop sign and slammed into a parked vehicle on Saturday.

Ukaj is the son of Kyle and Mary Ashton of Winterport. He graduated from Hampden Academy in 2002, later enlisting in the military and serving as a combat engineer in Iraq with the Marine Corps. He moved to New York after leaving the military.
