Patten man threatens first responders, court officials

PATTEN (WGME) — A Penobscot County man is being charged for threatening to kill first responders.

State police report that Fred Whitney, a 49-year-old Patten resident has made several calls threatening to kill or harm police, firefighters and court officials.

Whitney told Aroostook County Sheriff’s office that he would not be appearing in court, and any attempt to arrest him would be met with gunfire. He was arrested Tuesday without incident.

Police charged him with terrorizing and disorderly conduct.

BDN reports that he’s being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail, and is set to appear in District Court in Millinocket on Wednesday.
