PALMYRA, Maine (WGAN) A woman is dead after she was hit by a minivan while crossing a road in Palmyra over the weekend, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded Saturday around 7:30 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on Route 2 near the Palmyra Walmart.

The sheriff’s office says that 45-year-old Heather Corey of Palmyra was walking toward the Dollar General when she was hit by a minivan by an 80-year-old Palmyra man.

Corey was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the minivan was not hurt.

Deputies say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
