Two separate wrecks on I-295 in Brunswick involving multiple vehicles shut down the southbound lanes on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were at the scene of the crashes just after 4 p.m. Tuesday. The crashes, which both involved three vehicles, happened near exit 28, causing a traffic backup.

Two people were taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the congested roadway and sun glare were factors in the chain-reaction crashes.
