Maine 1st District Congresswoman Chellie Pingree says she’s preparing for possible ICE activity in Maine.
Pingree will be in Minnesota on Friday, along with two dozen other Democrats, to observe conditions on the ground and meet with local officeholders.
She’s called the shooting of a woman by an ICE agent last week in Minneapolis “murder in cold blood.”
She also said, “Violent immigration officers have terrorized and traumatized entire communities on orders from a truly lawless and morally corrupt Administration.”
Pingree is one of 70 Democrats who are calling for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Violence between immigration agents and bystanders in the Minneapolis area has ramped up since last week’s shooting.
Immigration agents shot and wounded an undocumented Venezuelan immigrant this week, which further elevated tensions.
On Thursday, President Trump said he would invoke the Insurrection Act if Minnesota politicians “don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job.”
Federal agents have used tear gas and flash bangs in clashes with protesters, who have launched fireworks at officers.
Around 3,000 federal agents have been sent to Minnesota in what the Department of Homeland Security says is the biggest operation in its history.
