Police arrest Portland man believed to be building a bomb

A Portland man accused of trying to construct a bomb was taken into custody after police executed a search warrant over the weekend.

The State Police Tactical Team, crisis negotiators, and a Hazardous Device Unit were called to 22 Runnels Street around 5:30 Saturday evening. 39-year-old Daryl Walsh was accused of making threats to a former domestic partner and a member of the judiciary.

Police were told he was armed and was in the process of making a bomb. He was taken into custody after crisis negotiators were able to get him to leave his apartment.

He was charged with terrorizing, criminal use of explosives, and violation of a protection order.

Police say the incident is still under investigation.
