Police: Saco man brandished hammer in Old Orchard Beach robbery

OLD ORCHARD BEACH (WGAN) A Saco man is arrested and charged in connection with a robbery at a Family Dollar store in Old Orchard Beach in December.

Police say they responded to the store at 8 Heath Street around 9:30 p.m. December 10th to a report of a robbery. An unidentified white male entered the store with a hammer and demanded money from a clerk, taking money from a cash register and then fleeing the store. No one was injured.

Police searched the area for the suspect but were not able to locate him.

Police later identified the suspect as 32-year-old Michael C. Chase of Saco. They recently received a report that he was staying at the Dock House Inn on the same street as the Family Dollar. He was arrested at the Inn around 7 p.m. Thursday.

He was charged with one count of robbery and is being held at York County Jail with bail set at $10,000.
