WATERBORO, Maine (WGAN)  Police say a suspicious bottle was detonated after being found in Waterboro Monday evening.

The York County Sheriff’s Office says a passerby saw a needle and bottle wrapped in duct tape on the 800 block of Main Street around 7:30 p.m.

The person called the sheriff’s office, fearing it may have been a harmful home made device.

The Maine State Police bomb squad was called in.  They detonated the bottle and later determined it had contained syringes and caps.

The Waterboro Fire Department then took care of clean up, making sure all items were properly disposed of.

Police are asking anyone with information about where the bottle came from to contact them.
