AUBURN, Maine (WGAN) Auburn police say a possible shooting is under investigation.

Deputy Chief Tim Cougle said officers responded to the area of 77 South Main Street around 6:30 a.m. Thursday after multiple people reported hearing gunshots.

At least one person was injured, but it’s not yet known if the injuries were a result of a gunshot. Those involved fled the scene.

A building nearby was hit by a bullet, but it was empty at the time. Police say they’re confident the building wasn’t an intended target.

Cougle says it appears to be an isolated incident and that the people involved know each other.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Auburn police.
