State police say they were lead on a chase on Interstate 95 by a man driving a truck with a sign indicating there was an explosive device on board.
According to the Portland Press Herald, a trooper fired shots after the driver attempted to maneuver the truck toward the Canadian border at the Houlton-Woodstock, New Brunswick port of entry.
The man surrendered, and he was not injured.
He was arrested and identified as 42-year-old Tony Holford of Providence, Rhode Island.
He was charged with aggravated reckless conduct, terrorizing and failure to to stop.
The border crossing was temporarily closed, and the Maine State Police Bomb Squad was expected to remain on the scene throughout the night.
Maine State Police, the attorney general’s office and Canadian authorities are investigating the incident.
