Police made use of Maine’s Yellow Flag Law when seizing firearms on an island near Rockland.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a 700-acre island on Monday after a report of an armed man wearing a ballistic vest walking into the woods.

The man was found in a boat by deputies and the Coast Guard. Authorities said he didn’t have a vest on and wasn’t armed when they found him. He was sent to the hospital to get checked out.

On Thursday, authorities used the state’s Yellow Flag Law to seize what they said were “numerous firearms” on the island.

A person of interest was taken into custody, but there’s been no word on any charges.
