Police investigate fatal crash in Winterport

A 21-year-old Frankfort man was killed in a crash in Winterport on Thursday evening.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office says the crash was reported on Steam Road in Winterport at 6:55 p.m. on Thursday.

Police discovered that the vehicle being driven by 21-year-old Jesse Skillings had struck a mailbox, crossed the roadway and struck a tree on the other side of the road. Skillings was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was in the vehicle.

Police are still investigating but say speed and alcohol may have been factors.
