Police investigate physical altercation that led to man’s death in Auburn

Police say a man died after they responded to reports of a physical altercation outside an Auburn apartment complex Wednesday night.

Police responded to the complex on Hampshire Street shorty after 11 p.m.

When they arrived, they found a man in his 40s who was seriously hurt.

A second man involved in the incident fled on foot before police arrived.

Investigators say there’s no threat to the public, and they know who the second man is but haven’t been able to locate him.

The other man was pronounced dead after being transported to Central Maine Medical Center.

The name of the man who died is being withheld until family members are notified.
