Police Investigating Hit-and-Run in Winterport

WINTERPORT, Maine (WGAN)  The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit-and-run that left one woman hurt.

Police say Tuesday night around 7:15, 56-year-old Georgina Wells went to check her mailbox in Winterport.  Her husband called 911 after he said he heard a disturbance and went outside to find his wife had been hit.  The car fled the scene.

Police say they believe the car was traveling southbound on Route 1A at the time.

Wells was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, that included broken bones.

Police say the passenger side mirror of the car broke off in the collision.  They believe it is from a dark blue, 2009 to 2011 Honda Civic.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
