Gorham police are warning the public to be on the lookout for a white van after several people in multiple towns were struck by pellet or BB guns in drive-by shootings.
One of the victims, Skye Randall, a freshman at USM in Gorham, was on her way back from class in Portland Monday night when a white van came up beside her and began firing pellets at her car. Randall’s car window was shattered and she had at least six dimple holes in her car.
Police say there were multiple reports of similar incidents throughout the area on Monday. In one incident, a person was shot by a pellet as a white Ford Econoline van drove by on South Street in Gorham. Similar incidents also happened on Turkey Lane in Buxton and in the town of Scarborough.
On Monday night, four cars at the Gorham Hannaford were found with shattered windows and pellet-shaped holes.
Police have identified potential suspects but would not say if they were adults or juveniles.
Gorham Police Chief Christopher Sanborn said that while no one has been injured in the shootings, pellet guns can be dangerous and could injure someone if they are hit.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incidents to contact local police.
If you are caught up in a drive-by pellet gun shooting, try to remain calm and drive to a safe location as quickly as possible. If you are hit by a pellet, seek medical attention if necessary.
