The Auburn Police Dept. has released the name of the man who died after he was struck by a vehicle as he tried to cross the street in his wheelchair.

Police have identified the victim as 57-year-old Steven Mortimer.

He was trying to cross Center St. near the entrance to Target when he was struck by a minivan.

Police say the initial investigation indicates that Mortimer wasn’t in a marked cross walk and was crossing against the flow of traffic.

Mortimer died of his injuries after being taken to Central Maine Medical Center.

The driver of the minivan was identified as 54-year-old Bryan Paul of Altamonte Springs, Florida.

A press release issued Wednesday morning said Auburn police were reconstructing the crash and the investigation remains open.
