ROME, Maine (WGAN) A 22-year-old from New Sharon was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the town of Rome.

Authorities said the crash happened on Rome Rd. or Route 225 Thursday night. 22-year-old Brad Daggett lost control of his vehicle while taking a left turn, leaving the roadway and striking several trees.

He was extricated from the vehicle by first responders but succumbed to his injuries.

His passenger, 20-year-old Haylie Smith of Madison, suffered non-life threatening injuries but was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

Unsafe speed as well as fog and wet road conditions appear to be factors in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
