PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Portland, Maine, officials say over 2 million passengers have used the city’s airport, breaking a record set last year.

The Portland Press Herald reports the record was broken with nearly three weeks left in 2018. According to the officials, 1.86 million passengers flew in and out of the jetport last year.

Assistant Airport Director Zachary Sundquist says Portland’s rising popularity as a tourist destination has increased travel. Sundquist says expanded service to Florida has driven activity as well.

A news conference and celebration at the jetport is scheduled for Wednesday.
