Members of the Portland City Council are considering how to go about finding a replacement for the city manager.

City Manager Jon Jennings is preparing to step aside by the time his contract is up in July of 2022. However, the Portland Press Herald reports that Jennings is one of four finalists interviewing for a similar position in Clearwater, Florida.

He would only need to provide 90 days notice to the council before leaving his current job if he accepts the one in Florida.

The council met Monday night, with most members agreeing that the search for a new permanent manager should begin, though some support selecting an interim city manager to serve until the fall of 2022.

The council agreed to revisit the topic in a couple of weeks when they know more about Jennings’ plans.
