The Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife says a 40-year-old Portland man drowned after his fishing raft overturned on the East Outlet of Moosehead Lake.

The department announced the death of Truc Huynh on Sunday.

Officials say Huynh was fishing with a friend Saturday on the East Outlet, which flows out of Moosehead Lake and into the Kennebec River.

When the two tried to move to a new location, they went over some whitewater rapids and the raft flipped.

Huynh’s friend was wearing a lifejacket and was able to make it to shore. Huynh, however, didn’t have a life jacket on and didn’t survive the incident.

A warden service airplane was deployed to help search for the man.

At about 4 p.m. Saturday, the pilot spotted Huynh’s body along a stretch of the river in Sapling Township.
